Classroom Educator Level
Classroom Educator Course/ Orton-Gillingham with Practicum 8:30-3:00 ( 6 hours per day: 5 days) ( half hour lunch break) Training is based on the Orton Academy readings and requirements. Cost: $1125 plus travel expenses for onsite locations at schools Site Location: On-site at schools Course Covers: The foundations and underpinnings of the Orton-Gillingham reading approach.
Classroom Educator Orton-Gillingham Course: No Practicum Cost: $ 625 plus travel expenses for onsite locations at schools Time: 8:30-3:00 ( 6.0 hours per day: 5 days) ( half hour lunch break) This course allows for teacher’s busy schedules by providing 5 days of training in Orton Gillingham (OG) based on a scope and sequence, foundations of this reading approach, and support in lesson planning by modeling of lessons as well as participants actively designing three lessons during the time in the class. 3 lessons will be created during the class and presented to the group. Participants are observed implementing two lessons they create and present to the class. Time: 30 hours class time Practicum: None Observations: 2 Orton Gillingham Hybrid Course: No Practicum Cost: $950 plus travel expenses for onsite locations at schools Time: 8:30-3:30 ( 6.5 hours per day: 7 days) ( half hour lunch break) This course allows for teacher’s busy schedules by providing 7 days of training in Orton Gillingham (OG) based on a scope and sequence, foundations of this reading approach, and support in lesson planning by modeling of lessons as well as participants actively designing four lessons during the time in the class. An additional two days for advanced phonology and morphology skills and encoding for spelling rules and generalizations can be arranged as workshops later in the school year. One of these is free to participants who complete the course. This does not involve the practicum but does build in time each day of the course for participants to practice creating lessons and working with each other implementing Orton Gillingham. 2 of the lessons created will be used for observations. Associate Level Training
Orton-Gillingham Teacher Training-Associate Level with Practicum Course follows the guidelines of the Academy/ Practicum Prerequisite: Bachelor’s Degree Fellows: Jan Ellis-Clements Offered: Annually Cost: $2250 Location: On site at your school or location Some travel expenses apply for on site courses Complete Associate Level Training: The Associate level requires a Bachelor's degree, 60 hours of course work instructed by a Fellow/AOGPE based on the Academy's required curriculum at the Associate level, 100 hours in a supervised practicum teaching one-to-one under the direction of a Fellow/AOGPE (to include a minimum of 10 hours of direct observation). The practicum and course work must be spread out over a period of one year (no less than 8 months), and completion of the Academy's Required Reading. Associate members continue to work under the supervision of a Fellow/AOGPE. Associate Level Orton-Gillingham Course with Practicum Course follows the guidelines of the Academy/ Practicum Cost: $2250 plus travel expenses for onsite locations at schools The Associate level requires a Bachelor's degree, 60 hours of course work and 100 hours in a supervised practicum teaching with a minimum of 10 hours of direct observation under the instruction and supervision of an Orton Fellow/AOGPE. Associate Level Orton-Gillingham Course- No Practicum Associate Level Orton-Gillingham Course: No Practicum Cost: $1250 plus travel expenses for onsite locations at schools Time: 8:30-3:00 ( 6.0 hours per day: 10 days) ( half hour lunch break) This course allows for teacher’s busy schedules by providing 10 days of training in Orton Gillingham (OG) based on a scope and sequence, foundations of this reading approach, and support in lesson planning by modeling of lessons as well as participants actively designing five lessons during the time in the class.
